There are so many reasons to visit Windermere.

So, let’s dive into a one-day itinerary that will leave you wanting to come back for more!

Morning

First things first, let’s kick off your day with a delicious breakfast at one of the many quaint cafes in Windermere. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty English breakfast or a lighter option like avocado toast.

The breakfast at the Beech Hill hotel and spa where I stayed was absolutely fantastic!

But you’ll find plenty of places to satisfy your cravings. After fueling up, it’s time to head to the water and make the most of all the outdoor activities on offer.

One of the best ways to experience Windermere is by taking to the water. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and spend the morning exploring the tranquil waters of the lake.

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try your hand at windsurfing or sailing? There are plenty of places to rent equipment and instructors on hand if you need a little guidance.

Afternoon

After working up an appetite on the water, it’s time to refuel with a delicious lunch.

Head to one of the local pubs or restaurants and tuck into some traditional British grub.

Whether you fancy fish and chips, a hearty pie, or a comforting bowl of soup, you’ll find plenty of options to satisfy your hunger.

With your energy levels restored, it’s time to explore some of the area’s charming villages.

Take a leisurely stroll through Bowness-on-Windermere, a bustling little town with plenty of shops and galleries to explore.

Don’t forget to stop by the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Peter Rabbit and his friends.

If you’re a fan of history, then a visit to the historic Wray Castle is a must.

This Victorian neo-gothic mansion is open to the public and offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding countryside.

Take a guided tour and learn about the castle’s fascinating past, or simply wander around the grounds and soak up the picturesque setting.

As the afternoon draws to a close, why not indulge in a spot of afternoon tea?

Windermere has plenty of delightful tea rooms where you can enjoy a selection of sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats, all accompanied by a steaming pot of tea.

It’s the perfect way to relax and unwind after a day of exploring.

To round off your day, head to the Windermere Jetty Museum, where you can learn all about the area’s rich maritime history. With its collection of historic boats and interactive exhibits, it’s a fascinating place to visit and a great way to gain an insight into the region’s seafaring heritage.

Evening

As the sun sets, make your way back to Windermere and find a cosy spot to enjoy a delicious dinner.

Whether you’re in the mood for a gourmet meal at a top-notch restaurant or a laid-back meal at a local eatery, you’ll find plenty of options to suit your tastes.

Beech Hill Hotel and Spa offers a fine dining experience with exceptional service.
